Hi Everyone,
Thanks to everyone who responded to my earlier email on repowering with a Beta Marine diesel.  We have decided to go with the 16 hp model.  Now we need to buy a new right hand propeller and want to make sure I get something that will fit the existing propeller shaft before I place the order.  We are going to go with a 3 blade 13 inch 8 pitch prop on the engine vendors recommendation..  Does anyone know the dimensions of the original shaft such as taper, lenght of taper, small end diameter, and keyway width and depth?  Also can anyone suggest a supplier in the U.S. that they have had good luck with on this kind of purchase?
Thanks,
Bob Jenkins

I re-engined Alte Liebe, #1266, last year and retained the 25mm shaft as the Volvo coupling extactly mated the Yanmar output coupling.  I ended up buying a new gori folding prop.  The Gori rep who happened to be at the San Francico Boat show next the my prop shop looked at the old prop and stated "That's a standard Volvo shaft" and when off and made a prop that fix.  BTW--its a 25mm shaft and a 10 mm keyway, but I never learned the taper etc.  Hope this helps

Shaft taper: On both my shafts, old and new, is 1:10 on diameter. 25mm to 20mm in 50 mm length. Keyway 6 mm width.
Threads: Check thread diameter and pitch. Old and new shafts were different. What does your new propeller require?
Propeller: 13x8 inch prop sounds very small compared to the 16x10 recommended to me by Gori. My gearbox ratio is 2,3:1. 3 600 engine rpm gives 1 565 prop rpm, which with 10 inch pitch means a speed of almost 7 knots with 50% propeller slip, (normal calculation).
Your 8 inch pitch by the same token would need 1 956 propeller rpm, gearbox ratio to suit 3600 engine rpm would be 1,84. What is it?
Gori's technical expert advised that a larger propeller rotating slower will give better thrust under adverse conditions, due to the larger blade area.
Food for thought.

Just to add a little confusion - Shanty's shaft is 25.4mm diameter - 1". Dunno if its original, but might be worth checking yours.

The propeller shaft is 25 mm. I have no idea what the taper is. I did replace the propeller once, but I don't even rember there was a taper. I'll have to excersise my memory more. You will need the length as well as the end diameter on the taper, to know it's dimension though.
