Dear Ballad-exchange members

For about a year now, my Ballad #173 has a leakage through the wire hole in the port cupboard above the navigation unit. Obviously the first thing to check and change was the genua rail, which is in this area. This was dry and was fitted back properly. After that I checked and filled all holes of the rain cover as well as the top fitting above the sliding door. I also checked the windows with a bucket, but these seem fine.

The problem with these kind of leaks that it can leak in the front, but due to the sandwich system it comes out a complete different spot. Does anyone have similar experiences and can advise me where I should look next?

Your help will be appreciated.

Bram

Any chance of a picture? I'm not certain what you mean by "navigation unit", but I guess this is around the chart table - could this be water seaping through from weakened sealing under the handrail above deck, and from there running down the inner lining until it finds the first hole?

Another possibility is a leak at the bolts on the side of the of the cabin, hlding the main bulkhead. These boltsholes are not watertight and have just a piece of white wood (as opposed to hard wood) as reinforcement between the inner and outer GRP-shells. This is where I used to have problems, I think.

I tend to get a leak in the port side of the cabin and it appears to come from one of the window seals - its only an issue in relly heavy rain but is annoying as it stains the woodwork - I have no idea where the leak is occuring. Other than repalcing the window I have no idea how to fix it! I guess aleaking boats is not unexpected in boats of this sort of age (Embla (1052) was built in 1976)!

I found the leak: it is a small crack in the foredeck, which needs proper repair still, but some kit solved the immediate problem.
