by Mark for everyone
Hello all,

My wife is an intrepid sailor who I am lucky enough to be able to report is at her best when the weather is at its worst. However, once at anchor, she is also rather keen on having a shower. Has anyone fitted a shower, wet room sort of affair on a Ballad? If so, any useful tips?

Best regards,

Mark

p.s. don't judge me for the furry bottom in the photograph! I hadn't had a chance to scrub off before that epic sail.

Yes. Hot water tank in forward end of stbd cockpit locker, engine heat and shore power. H&C to tap/shower hose in place where engine control used to be. H&C to mixertap over sink. Extra water tanks in base of both cockpit lockers. Luxury!

Hello sir,

Thank you for the information, hot running water, such luxuries! Do you have any photos of the set up? I am hoping next year to be able to afford to fit my brave ballad out a bit better and this is one of the possibilities.

Ta,

Mark

OK, I´ll take some snaps and hope they will be informative. Maybe they would be easier to see in detail if I send to you by e-mail. What is your address?

Thank you, that is very kind. If you have any other thoughts on other Albin Ballad modifications (heating etc, we currently use the grill!!) I would be very interested to hear.

My email address is MarkR -at- mortgagesforbusiness -dot- co -dot- uk.

Thanks again,

Mark

I´ve posted the pics of my H&C system somewhere else. Couldn´t discover ho to attach them here.
The whole installation looks rather messy. The reason is that over the years I have added both this that and the other, so it has grown rather than be planned. However, it works, that´s the main thing. In the spring, I will be adding H & C supply to the sink in the foc´sle. Part of the system which does not appear on the photos are the two extra water tanks. Years ago, after a serious engine crash, I reworked the whole exhaust system, which freed up the space under the cockpit. Made up a 65L diesel tank and installed it there. The old diesel tank was removed. The space freed up (stbd side) enabled an extra water tank, extended aft, and about 60+ liters. Another, mirror-imaged tank was installed on the port side. A large-diameter interconnection, with cocks, allows filling from one filler on the stbd side, next to the diesel filler. The water take-off is from the middle of the interconnection.
All this extra tankage allows much longer trips without having to worry about fluids. The extra weight is like having two blokes in the cockpit, which I don´t mind as I do most of my cruising solo and I like tying up to rocks instead of marina pontoons.
Good to have H&C running at the sink, but the real benefit, though, is the shower in the cockpit. Ah! bliss!
