by Cameron for everyone

Dear Balladeers,

I am looking at buying a cockpit tent / bimini to increase our cruising range in both cold and warm climates, and may also replace the sprayhood in the process as ours is getting a bit threadbare.  There are all sorts of combinations possible, but ideally we would want a full cockpit tent that converts in some way to a bimini, either by unzipping or rolling up.

Does anyone have a used one in fair condition they want to sell in the UK?

Also any comments about suppliers of new ones welcome.

Regards,

Cameron

Hi Cameron,

We use a simple all purpose 3 x 4 meters DIY cover, which are for sale in any hardware store for less then 10 euro's. We put aside our boom and clip our spinnaker pole at the backstay and span the pole with a line to our mast. Especially when it rains (unfortunately that's the case quite often in the Dutch summers) it expands your living space. Whenever it stops raining we put it away immediately. The last one lasted for 3 seasons!
All the best,

Hello Cameron,

Ah, I too dream of the day of having a sprayhood again, mine is more mold than sprayhood, if I put it up again it's liable to fly to pieces. I've had some cracking quotes from CJ marine in the UK (http://www.cjmarine.co.uk), not cheap, but their workmanship, by all accounts, looks amazing. I have found I have gotten a pretty decent discount on quotes at boat shows, so perhaps worth saving up and then making them an offer at a boat show in the autumn. I have yet to take an offer up as other on board expenses keep cropping up and heading me off at the pass.

I believe CJ have ballad templates too,

Hope this helps,

Mark
