Sturdy 30ft cruiser with a half-tonner pedigree. Fully equipped, well maintained and ready to go. Back in 1993 Yachting Monthly wrote about the Ballad: ‘ Under sail she was and still is a witch to windward [..]. She is light, well-balanced and quite stiff. Thanks to the full skeg she tracks well downwind and heaves to quietly’. All sails are in excellent shape and relatively recent, new backstay 2010, new engine Volvo Penta in 2001, new upholstery 2011. A beauty to see at sea and in port!

The boat sails under Dutch flag and lives currently in South Brittany, France.

Hi Guys,

I bought Aurigny Song, Ballad No 69 earlier this year and am loving owning her. I've got couple of questions I hope you guys can answer.

I'm looking at fitting a couple of D rings to clip onto in bad weather. Is there an area in the cockpit that is best to fit them? Is there a place that is designed to put them?

I am also going to fit a swim ladder to the transom, could anyone advise me on what type is best - I'm based in the UK if that is any help.

I look forward to hearing from you.
thanks
Lew

I posted this a few weeks ago and was requested to enclose some photos. I have a close up of the hole where the water is coming from, as well as the location in the boat. I hope this clarifies it.

Looking forward to your reactions

Dear Ballad-exchange members

For about a year now, my Ballad #173 has a leakage through the wire hole in the port cupboard above the navigation unit. Obviously the first thing to check and change was the genua rail, which is in this area. This was dry and was fitted back properly. After that I checked and filled all holes of the rain cover as well as the top fitting above the sliding door. I also checked the windows with a bucket, but these seem fine.

The problem with these kind of leaks that it can leak in the front, but due to the sandwich system it comes out a complete different spot. Does anyone have similar experiences and can advise me where I should look next?

Your help will be appreciated.

Bram

These sails are about 20 years old and made from standard Dacron and makes for pretty decent cruising sails for any yacht. Because I am racing my Ballad now, I have put a new suit of laminate sails on hence these are no longer required.

The sacrificial UV strip along the headsail is somewhat faded and could be replaced, however it still does it job of protecting the sails from damaging UV. There are tell tails on the sail and the luff rope is 6mm. This headsail could do with a launder and has a few small rust patches on it, however as it served with me, it will be a great cruising headsail!

One of the sliders on the mainsail is broken, and this again, could do with a jolly good scrub.

Advertised on ebay! Please let me know if you have any questions.
