Littlebit enjoyed a successful cruise this summer to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.  The trip was 42 days round-trip from Cape May, New Jersey, US.  We had good weather, bad weather, and plenty of fog.  Temperatures were an average of 65F, and we had a low of 42F near Burgeo, NF; however, the wood-burning heater I installed last year made this quite tolerable.  On the return trip, we had a four-day gale over Emerald Bank and Georges Bank, and the Ballad handled it with aplomb.  It was a very comfortable ride.  In all, I've fallen more deeply in love with Littlebit as a result of this trip.  Nova Scotia and Newfoundland are exceptionally beautiful, and I'd encourage anyone to go.  I've attached a few pictures here, and I'll post an incredible video of dolphins (sorry about the "holy sh*t"s -- I was a little excited) in the video section.

This summer "Mallemuk" (1182) visited the Faeroe Islands. We were bound for Island, but unfortunately my mate had to go back to Denmark from the Faroes. I was lucky to hitchhike with two other boats to Island and back to "Mallemuk", and get new crew to the trip home.

I put some pictures and letters (in danish) at my multiply, which you will find here:

http://mallemuk.multiply.com/

Thanks to Jesper for his inspiration and great work for the group.

Also thanks to the members that have participated with heating letters. "Mallemuk" was equiped an Eberspächer AIRTRONIC D4 before the cruise, which never failed and kept us warm and dry in the cold conditions.

We had a great cruise this summer to Norway. It was completely new cruising ground, the weather was perfect, the boat sailed real good, the crew got along fine, and we were accompanied by the best of friends in their own yacht.

Pictures can be seen here: CLICK

Route can be seen here: CLICK

Please be inspired, The Ballad is a good cruing boat for two three or four persons. And Norway is a very exciting destination.

Only trouble was that the inlet in the toilet tank got stuck. More about that in the appropriate subforum.

Hi!
Just want to say hello to all ballad owners on the forum. I too have recently bought my own beautiful ballad, after years of dreaming..

Returned to Oslo the other day, after two weeks of gentle cruising in skagerak. I am really satisfied and more enthusiastic than ever :-)

Cheers

Like a few posts on here I have just recently bought a Ballard (Hull number 1052) and keep her up here in Northern Norway (Bodø).  I took her from her old berth in Bodø harbour to her new home at Klokstad and she sailed well despite a very light head wind, we still managed to get her there and my partner and I did not endu up in divorce!  I even think my dogs enjoyed the trip.  No we are looking to tart her up a bit (the boat that is, not my partner!) as she needs a bit of TLC and restoring to her former glory, and look forward to sailing her around the fjords here.

I am so impressed with this site - congratulations, in actual fact it made me much more comfortable about buying a boat I really knew very littel about (design and performance wise).

Hi everyone.  Well Mark went down the boat and has done the repair work needed with his Pa so that we can get Triola back in the water... HOPEFULLY Monday and then get her home by the end of the week!

Wish us good weather with favourable winds and she'll be in the Medway by the end of the week!!!

Have added a couple more pics to the album!!

Just wanted to say a big hello to everyone on the forum.  I have just joined up after we (my partner and i) have started the process of buying our very own Albin Ballad (Triola).  If all goes well we should be registered owners within the week and then we can get the repairs needed done and sail her home.

Its been lovely to see some of the photos and read the discussions on here and we look forward to adding to this great group!

Hi to all:

After spending most of my Easter break stranded in the marina due to gale-force winds, it was nice that I had another 4-day break coming up.  Luckily, we had some favourable weather. An easy 10-12 knot wind on our way out (in which the Ballad managed to clock a respectable 4.6 knots) and the remnants of a force 6-7 on our way back, which is where this very short video is from. We beam-reached most of the way but also did some close-reaching.  Top speed was 7.8 knots with sustained speeds of over 6.5 knots. Not bad for a boat that was fully loaded. I imagine that her totally clean bottom made a big difference.

(Mind you the video is at 30fps which makes our progress seem a tad faster than it was)

The first Ballad was the Joker S30. I saw one this summer, and took this picture:

Joker S30 to the left, Ballad 1200 to the rigth. The Joker seems a little higer, at least at the sides.

We Also saw the Danish produced Albin Ballad MkII

Notive how the cabinroof seems to be longer and higher at the front, allowing more space below, and room for a proper hatch.

Hi to all:

For anyone who's interested (or knows someone who is) in buying a Ballad, there're currently two for sale in Greece, of '73 and '76 vintage.  Check out www.greg-yachts.com From what I know, Greg Vossos is a reputable agent.

The website for the danish ballad Club has been recreated, and it looks and works a lot better. Take a look at www.ballad.dk

The technical forum works a lot better too, and you might want to use it, even in english. You may use the generic user "guest" with the password "ballad". here is the link: http://ballad.t3p.eu/erfa_35/?no_cache=1  If the link somehow doesnt work go to www.ballad.dk and find the "Erfa" page, by clicking through the menus.

I uploaded a small 4 minute video about our New Year Cruise 2007 to Picasa. The video can be found in two qualities, the one is a smaler file, than the other.

Have fun. Let me know how well or how bad it works.

Did I ever show you these pictures of a boat that appears to be a smaller Ballad? I don't even know what this kind of boat is called, but is so "small Ballad". Any light on the subject is welcome.

More pictures here.

Hello All...
Does anyone know what type of wood is used in the cabins of the Ballads???
Mine doesn't look like teak or mahogany...wondered if it was some local hardwood?
I'm planning on replacing some of mine at some point...the veneer is starting to loosen in places.
Thanks....
