Re: Forward chainplate above head sawn-off, problems?

Now I have rectified the potential problem. I discussed the situation with an engineering colleague who's working with structural mechanics. He suggested that I would take the sewn-off pieces, add them to the sides and secure them with bolts and glue. Similar solution as you suggested Bob. So that's...

Re: Deck colour!

Wow, great work Mark and thanks for documenting it in detail and descriptively. I can imagine the slight dispair after the storm hit. I'm thinking of only doing the non-slip areas on the deck during this spring, possibly in stages. In that case I will just clean, sand, and aceton the areas, then app...

Re: Deck colour!

Very nice paint jobs! I'm definitely gonna re-paint the deck. Can't decide on the color on t the no-skid though. Opinions are highly welcomed. I am pondering three options for the no-slip parts at the moment. Use Hempel multicoat with gray color as Joerns on page #1 Use Hempel multicoat wih light bl...

Re: Forward chainplate above head sawn-off, problems?

No worries Peter. I wanted to maximize the volume of my tank, I don't know exactly how much can fit in it, but probably 65-70 L. If it works properly I will put some pictures of the finished work. Hopefully by then I will also have the truss welded back together.

Re: Forward chainplate above head sawn-off, problems?

Thank you all for the replies! Highly appreciated. Clearly I need to secure this before going out sailing again. I will splash the boat in a week, I will see what I can do before that. I'm not sure if I used the right terminology though in my first message. What has been sawn-off is the metal truss ...

Forward chainplate above head sawn-off, problems?

During this winter I have built and installed a black water holding tank above the toilet. In the process I have sawn-off the chainplate. Caught up in the fun of the work I didn't think twice about it before I started but now I start to wonder if the remaining chain plate will be structurally strong...

Re: Water Tank

I ordered a tank from Cipax in 2016: http://www.cipax.com/marine_products_uk ... -75-litres
I don't know if they ship outside of Sweden but it's worth e-mailing them and ask.
It's the same dimensions as the original.

Re: Strengthening the Ballad (Part 1)

Thanks for the thread. I haven't noticed any movement in my Ballad nr 323, but I haven't been out long in rough weather either. I am doing some refitting during this winter, building a septic tank that I will install above the toilet against the hull. Will make sure to put some glasfiber on the bulk...

Re: Propeller shaft truss - Albin Ballad

So the cutlass bearing is replace and I have installed the metal bracket back on the strut and put some glasfiber around it and up to the hull:

What do you guys reckon, does it look like it's reinforce enough, or is it just as well to do some extra while I am at it?

Re: Propeller shaft truss - Albin Ballad

So the bracket is lose. 20161203_131743_001_small.jpg And the propeller came off as well - after some hours of struggle and 2 times returning to the hardware store to get a puller that could do the job. 20161204_143409_small.jpg So my next step will be to replace the cutlass bearing inside the metal...
