Re: Tiller versus wheel

Hello Mike, Its an interesting concept, however I think you would limit your cockpit space even more :). http://www.edsonmarine.com/support/wheel_conversion/pdfs/S-438.pdf At least you can put the tiller up and out of the way when its not needed, with a wheel you no longer have that option. It's als...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

I'm not entirely sure if anyone is still following this elongated rant  , and I will write this up into a full (typically verbose) account once the rebuild is complete. I spoke to our West System rep today (who knew my late father (who was a shipwright) incidentally), and we spoke at length abo...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

I shifted down a gear from a sledge and cold chisel to a small clout hammer and a skinny wood chisel. Progress was slow but steady and controlled. One of the reasons I shifted down was I noticed trace amounts of water in the front of the bilge that was salty - I mopped it up, and another teaspoonful...

For anyone considering upgrading/changing props, I wrote the below as a guide - let me know if I missed anything out!:

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Thanks for the response Peter! I'll give it a go, I've been warned off using heat to soften the resin by a local fibreglass company as they suggested it will just burn and give off toxic fumes .

If I never see that club hammer and cold chisel again it'll be too soon!!

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

The saga continues - I have taken up the mast foot (I tried first an impact driver, followed by heat and an impact driver, however none of this made any sign of working, so I resorted to Cobalt drill bits and drilling the suckers out), removed the saloon sole (another cut was required in order to ge...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

So the mast is down, and I've started the extraction process. I was hoping to have the truss out on the same day as launching and dropping the rig, however some complications with me not cabling up the single lever control to the gear box right cost me an hour and the marina was a couple of hours la...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Thanks Bob! I completely missed the fact you had replied (buried in my burgeoning email). The date has been put back 'till next Monday where the rig will be dropped, and that truss will be coming out. Yup, thanks Bob, those measurements will be useful, the smaller section I can cut out of the sole t...

Re: Bulkhead & Construction

As part of my fitout of Triola (which is experiencing quite a lot of mission creep (new gas fitout in copper, new galley, removal of skin fitting, Propex heater install, new Flexofold prop, fit out cockpit lockers, moving batteries to under the cockpit and making an enclosure up for them, new mast t...
