Re: Concerns about the Ballad

Hi Moslund, Welcome to the Ballad Forum! The mast truss issue seems to be only on the earlier produced boats. I have #1085 and the truss and mast step are completely encapsulated and sound. I even drilled holes into the area and checked with a bore scope. There were no hollow cavities to be found, a...

Re: Depth/Speed transducer location questions.

I've put the instrument upgrade on hold for now. Between new roofs for the house & garage, and having a 'new' toy to play with, I'm going to enjoy the boat as it is for now. One thing I will upgrade is to add wireless to my AIS/GPS system so that it'll send the info to my Android tablet in the c...

Re: Holding / blackwater tank

Hi Stuart, I built my own plywood/epoxy tank to fit behind the head. Some pictures in this post , and more here. Basically it fits flush with the hull to get maximum volume, and in between the bulkheads, angled so that all the chain plate bolts are exposed. I put in a Raritan PHC head (highly recomm...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Mikkel, I am no expert, but that looks like something caused by an impact from running aground, or hitting some other hard object. It almost looks like it's only the gel-coat that's damaged. That said, I would certainly grind back around the crack and see if it goes deeper, then proceed from there. ...

Re: Depth/Speed transducer location questions.

Mark, Thanks for the link to your article .. excellent information, and Ballad specific too! I plan on using the DST800 transducer that is also a speed unit, so the hole has to go through the hull :( I'll check with B&G and see how much angle is allowable on the transponder. Thanks for the info!...

Depth/Speed transducer location questions.

I'm planning on adding a B&G Triton Wind/Depth/Speed set of instruments to my Ballad. Has anyone mounted a depth/speed transducer here? bilge.jpg Are there problems with hull thickness, fairing the outside, or a chance of weakening the hull? Would you mount on centreline or offset enough to miss...

Re: A leak in the valve area of the head... gnarly. 1977 #1206

A common toilet is the Jabsco. Jabsco.jpg They are probably the most inexpensive, but on two different boats I've had problems with them after about a year, and the kits for repair are quite expensive. On the Ballad I installed a Raritan PHII which has given excellent service for three years so far....

Not sure if your engine is self bleeding, but whenever I work on the fuel system I've always replaced any filters, seals, etc which require the system to be bled after replacement. Yes, I'd change the filters.

Re: Hatch cover fix or replacement

Hi, Welcome to the Ballad Forum! I've seen a lot of hatches like this (mine included). I used to worry about it, but it's served well for the three years we've been sailing our Ballad. I considered making a new hatch, but I like the light that shines through into the V-berth so have left it under th...

Well, no reply from Nic, so I'll post the pictures anyway ... I hope he doesn't mind.
He did an excellent job, which was the reason I saved them.
So, all photos and craftsmanship are by Nicholas of "Moments of Clarity".
