Where do you put your batteries?

Hello all, I am installing a wizard new Waeco fridge and Propex heater on Triola - more toys means more power consumption and a realisation that a second domestic battery is now a requirement. I currently have a 80AH engine battery and a 100AH domestic battery housed behind the chart table in an enc...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Cracking work Bob, I'll make that page on my website to make sure we lock in all this hard work. I was actually just talking to a fine gent who is marine gas engineer on the east coast who used to own a Ballad - he lost her when her mast drove through her step (I've emailed him asking for details), ...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Thank Bob, that's cracking, I'm going to do a write up of the whole 'bulkheads bonding' and 'mast truss' Ballad discussions for http://www.albinballad.co.uk to dispel some of the myths out there and to make sure this information is preserved for future Ballad owners and to allay any worrys of future...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

All prepared! http://i.imgur.com/2qY9fiCl.jpg I'm going to drill a hole either side of the mast truss, put a tube attached to a hoover in there and clear out any debris, then take a poke around with the camera. Once I am satisfied it is structurally sound I will then stuff it full of Dinitrol using ...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

What ho Bob, are things starting to thaw out a bit there now? Any progress? I had an interesting email from West System re whether encapsulating the mast foot would be beneficial. Thank you for your interest in our products. As we are not structural engineers it is not for us to advise whether timbe...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Triola is still in the water, I'll take her out for a couple of months in spring to get some work done. I want to fit our bilge pump I've had floating around in a locker for an age and finally get my new sprayhood on - all my time is being currently taken up by my wife expecting our second child! I ...

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Ah, thanks for the information, and I do own one of those actually. My late father was the worlds most awesome shipwright (he didn't pass on too many of those skills, I just parachuted him in when something like this needed doing :D , so some skilling up on my part required), and has left me a treas...

Re: Restoring Fionn (1972 Ballad #18(?))

I love the detailing on the grab rail and the top of the bulkhead. What wood did you use? What are you using the space under the V berth in the forecabin for now you have your new wizard holding tank in the main saloon?

Great progress! When are you hoping to have her ready to go?

Re: Mast step truss, inevitably:(

Thanks for the photo, I suppose the resin that surrounded the foot was bonded firmly to the hull so needed grinding back until you got to the fibreglass? What did you use to chop out the sole with? My first guess would be angle grinder, but those edges look too straight - circular saw (or a very ste...
