Re: Mounting a Bruce anchor

I've solved my problem: instead of looking for a bigger anchor roller I decided to use a smaller anchor. :D Here are some pictures of my solution, which is described in more detail here . Seems like a great solution :) I haven't even begun to consider what I'm going to do. Where do you keep the cha...

Re: Windows, what to do?

Yikes ... quite a price. I got a quote for DKK9000 from ERTEC Danmark ApS on June 20, 2011. This price included shipping to Canada. I'll send you a copy of the email details if you email me direct from the link at the bottom of http://www.sintacha.com. ERTEC is definitely cheaper. I got a quote for...

Re: Windows, what to do?

I decided to try and get a watertight seal using some butyl tape I had laying around. Folding the tape in half seemed to give a responsible thickness compared to the old rubber strip. No water got in whiled it rained this afternoon. Let's see what happens when the boat is back on the water :) https:...

Re: #332 restoration (ongoing)

Eek. Predicting 35kts here today, tho unseasonably warm temperatures. Might get one more work day in before winter! I glued proper core blocks under the chainplate bolts yesterday, then cast raised pads for the new ones. You can see in the first photo how the aft lowers ovalized their holes, due to...

Re: #332 restoration (ongoing)

Mads, I'm not a big fan of Gorilla glue. I had some problems while building a dinghy where joints sprung apart while under tension. I also don't like some of the ingredients listed on the Data Sheet , including "iphenyl methane-diisocyanate". My glue of choice for the interior joinery was...

Windows, what to do?

I removed the windows before painting the inside. It turns out the windows are a little corroded (one screw simply fell out). I have noticed water leaking from the windows when it rains. What should I do? Recently asked a Danish company that still manufactures windows what new windows would cost. St...

Re: #332 restoration (ongoing)

The repair ended up looking pretty good :) Feels good knowing that there is proper support for the bolts. Thanks Peter :) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-JdtDu2qZ-2M/Um05bwRkoZI/AAAAAAAADYo/S2KDR1zpA5M/w459-h612-no/IMG_0173.JPG I have started gluing the few pieces of plywood I test-fitted before ...

Re: #332 restoration (ongoing)

I decided to use WEST System's Six10 just to play around with it :) https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sZYsxasmCL0/Umj9jN84qSI/AAAAAAAADOM/5JgOvBfRQAY/w459-h612-no/IMG_0143.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-JL0br4NVi2k/Umj9gwGCvjI/AAAAAAAADN8/oXCeBMzfbhk/w749-h562-no/IMG_0145.JPG https://lh5.go...

Re: Fiberglass question (attachment of the small bulkheads t

Thanks to both of you :) Sounds like great advice. Looking forward to working with fiberglass and epoxy for the first time :) I want the bulkheads in place first so that I can use the old shelves (and the chainplate) to hold the bulkhead in place. Sadly I'm still waiting on the vinyl welting to arri...

Re: #332 restoration (ongoing)

I used WEST systems, thickened with coloidal silika from WEST.. It's important to brush a little unthickened epoxy on before applying the thickened stuff to makes sure you get a full contact for bonding. I squeezed in as much thickened epoxy as possible before putting in the plugs. As the filler bl...
