Re: bushing below the waterline
Here is some more about thru-hull installation. This is what I did. Most of my method was copied from here , except for the way the backing plate-to-seacock studs were installed. I wanted to install flush mount thru-hulls, but the original fittings had a very narrow lip compared to the replacements,...

Re: bushing below the waterline
Hi, Welcome to the Ballad Forum, and congratulations on your new boat. I did a similar job on my Ballad. The original thru-hulls are called "flush" thru-hulls, as opposed to surface mount ones. When I removed mine I found the replacement fittings had a different shape so the fibreglass had...

Looking for a Stanchion Base
Recently while at anchor another boat caught my lifeline and bent the midship's stanchion badly. I've managed to straighten the stanchion, but the base was split. I had it welded up but it's pretty ugly and of questionable strength. If anyone has a spare base, or maybe an alternative idea, please le...

Re: Beaching Legs
Old post ... here I go again  In the end I found a beach site that I could dry out on, leaning against a couple of pilings, and changed the transducer. I do a haul-out every second year, with a diver in between to give the bottom a scrub and to change the zincs. I liked the independence of havi...

Ted, not sure if this is what you want, but it's all I have on file.
Hope this helps.

Re: Rudder axial load
Ted, another thought: I could send you the ones I removed from #1085. They were still good (but not new, see pictures earlier in this thread).

Re: Rudder axial load
Ted, I get the hint, but would only do something like that if I had the rudder etc. on hand here to make sure of a perfect fit. I'm pretty sure these bushings are available ... somewhere. You might want to contact Vega Marin and see if they have any, or know where to get them. This is another possib...

#1085 "Pagan" stretches her legs
Just a short video shot by a friend as we worked our way up the west coast of Widbey Island, Washington State, USA.

Re: Rudder axial load
Hi Ted, I'm trying to relate the picture you posted to the one I posted. :?: It appears to be a whole different set-up. Could you post a picture of the whole stern showing rudder and skeg, top to bottom? Thanks! Edit: Ah, I see ... the picture is sideways ... silly me! Can you lift the rudder by han...

Re: Rudder axial load
Hi, and welcome to the forum! The only 'dumb' question is the one that goes unasked  The rudder shaft is held by three bushings: One at the top, one at the bottom of the tube passing through the hull, and one at the bottom, in a 'shoe' that is held to the tip of the skeg by three through-bolts....
