Genoa II

Post by Filtvedt »

I am going to buy a new forsail. I now have a genoa I for furling (profurl). The sail is 27,4 kvm in size. Iam living in the west coast of norway in Bergen and the wind is often above 10 m/s. I am thinking that a smaler Genoa might be better. A Genoa II will be 24,2 kvm. Will the boat loose much speed with this sail? Hope someone have some exsperience. :)

Hi Marius,
after we purchased our Ballad in 2006, we decided in 2007 to invest in new sailcloth.
We discussed with our sailmaker, which size of staysail we are going to have. Finally, our sailmaker - according our discussions - showed up with an offer for a GII.
I think it's about 25m² and it's our preferred sail since then.
The shape was kind of tall & narrow - almost like a high aspect shape , if I remember terminology right. It should run clear of the spreader while tacking - that was the idea.

I think in 90-95% of cruising we are using that sail.
We are sailing the 'old' B29 Profurl equipment. (It 's a mess while changing sails regarding the friction of the leech, especially if I change for the G1.)

Best regards,
Joerg
