If your girlfriend/wife/companion ever complains that you seem more attentive to the boat than to herself, follow the example of the enclosed photo. It's easy to rig, folds away to almost nothing and ultra comfortable. Then, as she swings gently, you can go down below and do that overdue engine & gearbox oil change.
Hmmm. I think I can perfect your design. Lash the significant other (not necessarily female) to the hammock?
I did see a hammock chair suspended from the mast of a Tartan 38 once. I wondered then if the Ballad mast could support such a thing. Take a look at http://www.hammaka.com/.
My girlfriend got the pictured hammock in Cambodia for $9. It's made of silk, it's super strong and gives a very secure feeling as it hugs the body. (To be sure, when I first tried it, I placed the inflatable dinghy underneath.) I found some nice ones at http://www.simplygardenfurniture.co.uk/Hammocks/Amazonas-St-Lucia , but at a higher price (40 euros). In the U.S., you can check out www.hammocks.com
As for the mast being able to support the weight, I don't think it's a problem considering the forces the sails impose on mast & rigging in even moderate conditions, let alone furious ones. Incidentally, the spinnaker pole attachment on the mast is perfect for shackling the head of the hammock. At any rate, once you try it,
you'll be looking forward to it every time you anchor.
