I had a couple of Ballads surveyed by different people before I bought mine last spring and both times it was recommended that the batteries be moved closer to the engine. Presumably this will reduce voltage drop while cranking the engine. Have other people found this to be a practical problem? Has anyone moved their batteries? The cockpit lockers would seem to be the only practical alternative location, and the weight distribution would change significantly possibly for the better. The space freed up in the bow would be very useful too. Who knows?

Has anyone, had issues with the alternator? I recently rebuilt my engine and reinstalled it in the boat. Once installed I fired it up and the alternator light took about 2 minutes to go out. I don't remember this from before. I seem to remember it went out right after starting...It seems to put out 14+ volts once it is running for some time but not when it first starts. I have now run it several times and this seems to reoccur each time.  Am I missing something?
