by Mick for everyone
I want to take out the draining board and under cupboard unit out to put a cool box under it in the place suggested by Albin Ballad. The cupboard unit etc. appears to be very firmly fixed in but I cannot see any retaining screws and it appears not to have.been glassed in. The only holes are in the bulkhead between the unit and starboard cockpit locker. The only thing possibly retaining it is the drawer panel under the cooker bridging the gap between the unit and the bunk bulkhead and the horizontal draw cover the drawer which is screwed to the draw cover although that set-up would appear be to my mind rather too low down to keep the unit in firmly. The unit has obviously been removed sometime in its life as the draining board has had a hole cut in it to take a small washing up bowl.
Any suggestions or experience in removing the unit. would be gratefully received.

Most of the interior joinery on my Ballad is put together with screws through small wooden cleats at the corners. Sometimes it is hard to tell what direction they all come from and there are often a lot of them. I like this feature of the Ballad because it allows me to remove entire panels from the boat for refinishing. I haven't removed the galley cabinetry yet but I plan to replace the counter tops. It could be that the screws are driven from above and covered by a laminate type work surface. Keep us posted on what you find.

Tony,
I had come to the same idea that as every other panel seems to be screwed in it followed that the sink unit would be similar also you can usually see the screw heads even if they are difficult to get to. I can't see any at the moment. I also had thought that maybe the laminate had been put on afterwards although it looks a very good job even for a professional, on a par with the manufactured worktops. The wooden edging around the sink seems to be fixed permanently to the unit so that probably is not hiding any screws either. As I said in my first e-mail there are screw holes on the bulkhead behind the unit which sort of confirms your comment that all the panels and units are screwed in. I haven't done any physical attack only visual as yet. I've just had a hip replacement so I'm not very supple at the moment but it is all improving day by day and the weather has been rather cold and snowy so I have lost some lof the lay-up time. I'm now getting to the point of attack. I'll take out the drawer panel and all the screwed bits, as the runners need repairing anyway and as in the words of Gilbert and Sullivan I'll review the situation and let you know unless you beat me to it..

Have you managed to lift the draining board?
Can you include some photos?
Can you schedule what you propose to do?
I've removed my draining board and the starboard "eye level" locker ancillary to renovation work.

I've lost track of my Multiply access protocols: can you respond to me directly: cpgpenn@hotmail.co.uk?
